Mealime closes on 21 October 2026

Switching from Mealime?

Pantro is an Android app for the same weekly loop: pick this week's dinners from a built-in library, get a grocery list that already knows what's in your kitchen, then cook. It is free to start, and your Mealime favourites come with you as links.

What carries over

The parts of Mealime people say they miss most, and where they live in Pantro.

A library to pick from

Mealime: A built-in library of weeknight dinners.

Pantro: A built-in library of complete meals, with a 30-minute filter and a “Recently added” shelf. You never have to collect recipes to get started.

A pool, not a calendar

Mealime: Pick a handful of dinners for the week and cook them in any order.

Pantro: “This week” is a list of picks, not day slots. Choose how many dinners, or tap “Pick for me”. The calendar is there only if you want it.

A list that writes itself

Mealime: Every recipe's ingredients merged into one grocery list.

Pantro: The same, and it checks your pantry first: what you already have sits in its own group, so you skip it without ticking your cupboards off by hand.

Plain quantities

Mealime: Generic ingredients, sorted by aisle.

Pantro: Quantities and units, sorted by aisle. No brands, no prices, no ads, and it works with any store in any country.

Less food waste

Mealime: Recipes planned around package sizes to keep leftovers low.

Pantro: Pantro shows what this week's shop will leave over and suggests dinners that finish it. Expiry reminders cover everything else in your pantry.

Cooking

Mealime: Step-by-step cook mode.

Pantro: Cook mode shows one step per screen with that step's ingredients and keeps the screen on. You tap to move on.

Your own recipes

Mealime: Custom recipes were a Pro feature.

Pantro: Write your own, or import from a link, many links at once, or a .paprikarecipes file. On every plan.

Price

Mealime: Free, with a paid Pro plan.

Pantro: A free plan covers the whole loop. Paid plans start at 9,99 zł a month (roughly $3) and add higher limits for AI scans and recipe ideas.

What Pantro doesn't do

Better you hear it here than find out after moving your recipes.

  • The built-in recipes are AI-generated and quality-rated. No test kitchen has cooked them, and Mealime's library was better on that front. The recipes you import or write yourself are yours, exactly as you keep them.
  • There is no iPhone app yet. Leave your email below and you'll get one message when there is.
  • No calorie or nutrition counts per serving.
  • No hand-off to Instacart, Walmart or Kroger carts.
  • It is not a 1:1 copy of Mealime. The loop is the same; the screens are different.

Bring your favourites before 21 October

Mealime has no export, and its website has no per-recipe links. The phone app does, so collect them while it still works:

  1. 1.In the Mealime app, open a recipe, tap Share and copy the link.
  2. 2.Paste each link into a note as you go. One note for all of them is fine.
  3. 3.In Pantro, open Cookbook, create a recipe from a link and tap “Import them all at once”. Paste the whole note: Pantro finds every link in it and saves each recipe to your own cookbook.

Most recipe pages import without AI. When one needs AI to be read, it counts towards your monthly recipe allowance. Imported recipes stay private to you.

Who runs Pantro, and your data

  • Pantro is built and run by one person — me, Tomasz.
  • Your recipes, meal plan and lists export in open formats (JSON, Markdown and .paprikarecipes) in one tap. It is free on every plan, any time.
  • The files open in any text editor, so you do not need Pantro to read them.
  • You can delete your account and its data in Settings.

Questions from Mealime users

When does Mealime shut down?

Mealime has announced it will close on 21 October 2026, with no export. Its owner, Albertsons, is moving meal planning into “Meals Hub” inside its US grocery store apps.

Can I import my Mealime recipes into Pantro?

Yes, one link per recipe. Copy each link from the Share button in the Mealime phone app, then paste them into Pantro's link import, many at once if you like. Each recipe is saved to your own cookbook.

Is Pantro free?

Yes. The free plan covers the whole loop: pantry, weekly picks, shopping list and cook mode, with starter limits on AI features such as fridge and receipt scans. Basic (9,99 zł a month) and Plus (25,99 zł a month) raise those limits, each with a 14-day free trial, billed through Google Play.

Does Pantro work on iPhone?

Not yet. Pantro is on Google Play for Android today. Join the iPhone waitlist on this page and you'll get one email when it is on the App Store.

Does Pantro work outside the US?

Yes. It works with any store in any country, in English or Polish, with metric or US measurements. There are no store accounts, brands or prices in the shopping list.

Are Pantro's recipes tested?

No. The built-in recipes are AI-generated, checked to be complete meals and rated for quality, but no test kitchen has cooked them. If that matters to you, import the Mealime recipes you trust and cook from those.
